🌱 Vigilante Crosswalk Painters + #Standing4BlackGirls at Leimert Park

Hello, Los Angeles; today is national vitamin c day! Let’s start this Monday with everything you need to know about Los Angeles today.

Is it crosswalk you use sanctioned by the city of LA? Also, why do Black woman represent a third of missing women but only 15% of the population? Finally, if I say hawawshi and partyyou say The Original Hawowshi?

First, today’s weather forecast:

Low clouds, then sunshine; hotter. High: 72 Low: 56.

Here are today’s top stories in Los Angeles:

  1. This pedestrian crossing corner of Romaine Street and Serrano Avenue in East Hollywood? It’s illegal. While the transport department don’t like it, Crosswalk Collective LA paints them “where they say they are needed to keep people safe when crossing the street”. “The group took action after their demands for safer streets across the city failed.” On Saturday, the DOT said “unauthorized street modifications are illegal and subject to immediate removal. They also divert limited city resources from our efforts to install authorized security treatments.” (NBC)
  2. Saturday, the Women’s Leadership Project held its annual meeting #Standing4BlackGirls event at Park Leimert. The event aimed to bring “attention to the lives of murdered and missing black women”. “Organizers say black women make up less than 15% of the U.S. population, but account for more than a third of all missing women.” (ABC)
  3. Are you plugged in the food that makes Egyptians nostalgic and countless Angelenos stalk the chef on Instagram? We talk about the Reseda’s underground pop-up known as The Original Hawowshi. It serves Street food in Cairo like hawawshi and party. Sometimes find it ‘outside salam lounge in Koreatown; it’s also taking pre-orders and offering timed pop-ups from a private residence in Reseda. (LA Eater)
  4. Sunday noon, Bishop Jose Gomez conducted the 20th Annual Mass in honor Caesar Chavez. It took place at Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. He honored “ChΓ‘vez’s commitment to the struggle for justice and dignity for all workers”. (Spectrum News 1)
  5. We learned on Sunday that the unhealthiest restaurant order in California is the Fudgegazi at Donut Friend in Los Angeles. It is “a tangy donut filled with chocolate cream, topped with chocolate icing and chocolate chips”. The good news is that he is vegan. (Room)
